This is one of the preeminent reasons that astrology maintains its wondrous hold on us. And, it will continue to maintain that hold as long as we are people and as long as we do things in our people ways.

New Moon in Leo-August 12

New Moons are times when the light of the moon is absent. Our ancestors used this deep, dark night to come together for planning, ritual and safety. There was strength in numbers against adversaries or enemies who might use the darkness for covert, stealthy attacks. The lack of light also made it impossible to invest extra hours in fields and in hunting. They were granted a lunar down time--to be filled with plans, worship and togetherness.

Leo is about ego, the assets and strengths of our ego, it's power and our willingness to radiate in our unique light through personality, talents, creativity, and love. We tend to equate ego with something undesirable, the opposite of spirit, something to be tempered, repressed or overridden. But ego is as necessary to our lives, our world and our growth as sunlight and water.

Picture today's New Moon in Leo as a chance to invest in a new beginning, to embark on a new journey or to initiate a new plan.

This is the first stage of your plan. It should be Leonine in nature and in properties, full of creativity, hope, optimism and passion.
It should serve to highlight your unique talents, strengths and gifts. It should be something that you can fully involve your heart and dreams in. It should be something that makes you feel good--about life, about yourself.
Leo is the sign that rules the heart and love matters are also under its rulership. How you invest love and how you receive love are areas that can be amplified and enlightened during this Moon phase.

Questions to ask yourself:
"How is love impacting my life right now. Do I feel loved or neglected?"
" How am I loving others?"
"How am I feeding my sense of self, my ego and my personality?"
"How giving am I?"
"How much energy am I investing in my creativity, my talents and abilities?
"How am I judging myself based on how much I own or have or who my friends are?"

From this information you should then create your New Moon Desires and Ideas List. It should be filled with something you can: Create, Love, Experience on a passionate level, Feel good about.

And then in a very logical and practical way the transits of the moon through the signs that follow the New Moon help you plan, initiate, take the first step and begin building your New Moon intentions.

Ready? Good....then here we go.

August 12-13:
The Moon remains in Leo for most of this period encouraging you to pour your heart and spirit into your plans. Examine and add to your initial ideas. Allow yourself to take them in directions that help you 'feel good' about them. Share them joyfully with people you love.

August 14-16: Planning-Virgo Moon
The Planning Stage:
The planning stage has commenced. An idea is born and if it is to go anywhere real plans need to be made.
Virgo is all that is serious, careful and methodical planning. And, it needs to be. The fully impassioned ideals of Leo require a very solid structure and grounding if they are to go anywhere.
It's a good idea to check for the 'health' of your plans. Are they loving but rational? Inspiring but helpful?
Put together detailed to-do lists. Inspect and reinspect them.
Be brutally honest about what can work and what cannot.
Adjust accordingly.

August 16-18: Libra Moon
Expanding/Sharing
You have the idea formed, the plans in place and now it is time to 'take' them out into the world via your communications. It's time to put more 'thought' into them, to hear the opinions of others. Libra adores hearing as many sides and points as possible. It weighs different possibilities and potentials carefully and lovingly. It chooses what is fairest and most peaceable.
More creativity may also be required. Can you add something to your original plan to make it more: loving, beautiful, harmonious, helpful or fair?

August 19-21:Scorpio Moon-1st 1/4 Moon
Building your base:
It's now time to begin creating a base for your New Moon Intentions. The real building phase has begun. This is all Scorpio stuff and it requires a willingness to examine the plan to its very deepest levels while being utterly truthful with yourself. Is this in your best interests? Are you avoiding looking at some facet or nuance of it that may be uncomfortable or even frightening?
Investigate fully. Don't neglect the most basic framework.
Build from the cellar up without taking shortcuts.
This is the point of the 1/4 moon and any problems or discrepancies will arise here. Scorpio makes the perfect tool for resolving them. Have no fear.

August 22-24: Sagittarius Moon
Expansion, conviction and falling in love:
From initial idea through planning, sharing and structure building you're deposited into the Sagittarius Moon with its built in optimism and its vision. Things can unfold rapidly. Along these short few days if you have been focused and following along in a natural, rational order you'll have ironed out many problems and picked up some extra goodies on the way. It's time to expand the idea. It's time to transplant it to your vision of the bigger picture--your future.
With optimism comes the Sagittarian melancholy, a place where nothing feels good and only gray shadows exist.
If you find yourself in this Sagittarius mood backtrack a bit. You've left something behind or you've lost your original sense of personal hope. Retreat, reconsider and then shake it off. This isn't about one chance done only one way. These are potentials...and you can take them any way you want to go.

August 24-26: Capricorn Moon
Getting to work:
The work, work, work really begins. You'll need to now act on plans, to work diligently to make them grow and move forward. This is the tone of the Capricorn Moon and its focus, tenacity and staying power should be part and parcel of your plans for your New Moon ideas. Go through to-do lists step by careful step. Keep the bigger picture in your vision while knowing it is the SMALLEST steps that will eventually get you there. A sense of humor is helpful for keeping the too serious tone at bay. You can work AND enjoy what you're doing.

August 26-28: Aquarius Moon
Sharing and partnerships:
This is the last phase before the critical point of the Full Moon. You should be ready to make a true pact with your New Moon Intentions. Partnerships can come into play, especially with the heart centered nature of Leo so dramatically involved in this. Seek out the counsel of others. Consider taking someone else along. Your unique vision is critical right now to bringing success into play.
